Best Practices on WEEE – Spain

In some Countries, like Spain, recycling and recovery of electrical and electronic equipment is closely related to the social economy. Associations and organizations in this field, are putting up some of the most interesting initiatives in our country, is the case of Re-Enchufa Project promoted by AERESS (Spanish Association of Social Economy and Solidarity).

The main objective of this project is to contribute the development of a circular economy and reduce environmental impacts associated with the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) based on the analysis and promotion of the preparation process for reuse in the context of their life cycle. The project aims to take another step in technical strengthening the task of preparing for reuse, knowing the environmental impacts of the extension of the useful life of electrical appliances.

The preparation for the reuse of WEEE is an area of proven expertice at national and European level and, at the same time, still has huge potential for development at the process level, infrastructures and job creation. Technical innovation linked to a better use of resources, adds to social innovation associated with the sector.

Some activities carried out within this project, are:

1.Visit to success case in Spain and Europe.

2.WEEEs technical conference, review of good practices, improving internal management processes and adequacy of centers for reuse to the specifications defined in the legislation.

3.Awareness and dissemination about environmental and social benefits of the recovery and preparation for re-use of WEEE.
